Phase of Accessibilty Project Approved At a congregational meeting on June 1 Augustana approved a recommendation of the Taskforce on Accessibility and Renovation and the Congregation Council to contract with Sagamore mechanical construction to install air-conditioning in the sanctuary. The rationale for moving forward on air-conditioning was to have air-conditioning installed before intense summer heat sets in if possible. Several elderly members of the congregation must either stay away from worship on days of intense summer heat or have diffculty breathing if they do attend. This step in no way jeopardizes progress on the rest of the accessibility and renovation project. All the detailed plans and mechanical drawings are not yet completed but should be ready to put out for bids within several weeks. If all progresses as hoped, the Taskforce could have a recommendation on the overall project to bring before the congregation for consideration and action in early autumn. Eighty-three households have now pledged nearly $550,000 for accessibility and renovation. To strengthen our position as we seek grants and loans, we would like to increase the number of pledges to at least 120. If you’ve not yet pledged, please consider prayerfully what you might contribute financially to the success of this project. Pledge cards are available (goldenrod) in the church office. |
