Education: Are You Getting Smarter?

We ponder the education of Augustana's children quite a bit of late. But how are you adults doing, educationally? Is your involvement in the congregation making you any wiser in the ways of the Bible, theology, or faith?

Several opportunities exist for adult education. If you haven't taken advantage of them, you're missing some good times!

Every Sunday morning at 9:15, Bob Luoma leads adult forum. Usually, we study the lessons for the day with the help of a study guide and Bob's impressive preparation. The discussion is always interesting and it's a great prep for the service.

If nothing else, it gives you a chance to think about how YOU would preach on these texts and then compare them to Pr. Cox's approach!

On Monday evenings, Pastor Cox has been leading a theology class and the discussions there have become quite lively! The course covers the fundamentals of Christianity -- who is God? Who is Jesus? What is the church? Where does humanity fit into all of this?

If your confirmation classes were less-than-inspiring, you especially should be attending this class. Since Augustanans come from so many different backgrounds, the answers you get from your classmates may not be quite what you expect. It leads to some serious pondering.

In addition, Pastor Cox always extends an invitation for current members to attend new members classes. We have a New Members class starting soon. During the classes, Pastor Cox and our new Augustanans explore what it means to be Lutheran and what it means to be part of this congregation. Perhaps you have an opinion about that...

And, of course, there is the monthly Bible study at Nicole & Dave Skinner's house and the Spiritual Friends monthly after worship ... if your time at Augustana isn't feeding your brain, it's not for lack of trying!
