Accessibility and Renovation Update

Contractors' Bids Due January 7

The deadline for contractors to return bids was moved to January 7 at the request of two contracting firms that wished to submit bids but were unable to meet the December 5 deadline. Once the bids are in, the Task Force on Accessibility and Renovation will review them with our architect, Andre Houston. Discussions with potential contractors will follow, and once the task force has agreed on a proposed bid, it will be brought before council and the congregation. Most likely that will occur in late February, or perhaps March if more extensive consultation and negotiation are required with contractors. Please lift up our accessibility and renovation project in your prayers -- and hope that bids come in no higher, and preferably lower, than the $1.2 million cost estimate.

The proposal we bring to the council and congregation will be accompanied by a financial plan. John Shutt is updating financial information so that as soon as we have firm cost figures from contractors Mike Olson can explore short and long-term loans with banks and Lutheran financial institutions. Also, we have contacted a financial planner who will help us review the various financial plans that banks and other financial institutions develop for us in order to help us select the plan that best suits our needs and financial situation.

We continue to make progress in pledging and in cash received. As of mid-December pledges stood at $555,544. Income received was approaching $340,000. Of that amount approximately $100,000 represents unpledged donations and the rest is payment on pledges. The task force hopes pledges as well as donations will continue to increase. The more cash we can accumulate now the lower our loan commitment will be once we decide to move forward with construction. In addition to seeking new pledges, we welcome increased pledges from anyone who has already pledged but is getting so excited about the renovation plans that he or she wishes to contribute more!
