Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church Congregational Meeting
March 28, 2004
Resolution One - A Time to Build Up - Augustana Accessibility and
Renovation presented by the Augustana Church Council
Whereas, Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church is committed to continuing
service to the Lord at 2100 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, Washington, DC,
and authorized a mission to make Augustana’s property welcoming
and accessible for all; and
Whereas, The Taskforce on Renovation and Accessibility, charged to
carry out that mission, developed architectural plans, submitted plans
for bid, negotiated with the two lowest bidders, and recommended to
the Council the acceptance of the bid from Kfoury Construction, Inc.;
and
Whereas, The Congregation Council approved that recommendation of
$1,158,501 for the reconstruction of the “V” street entrance
to the sanctuary making it fully accessible, the construction of an
accessible bathroom in the narthex, and the modification of the New
Hampshire entrance creating an entry space accessible to all levels
of the property, with the addition of $313,151 for the renovation of
the Social Hall, $8,925 for additional sanctuary lighting and $23,153
for a covered entryway to the New Hampshire entrance for a total bid
of $1,503,730; and
Whereas, Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church has a long history
of meeting all financial challenges it has accepted, ahead of schedule,
including the construction of the education wing in the 1950s, the
reconstruction of the Sanctuary roof and the installation of a new
pipe organ in the 1990s; and
Whereas, Over $600,000 dollars have been pledged to the project to
this date and pledges continue to be received; be it
RESOLVED, That the Congregation of Augustana Evangelical Lutheran
Church accept the bid of $1,503,730 from Kfoury Construction Group
and enter into a contract for the aforementioned amount with Kfoury
Construction Group for the completion of the planned construction and
renovation of Augustana; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Taskforce for Accessibility and Renovation work
in concert with the Augustana Church Council to secure adequate funding
to complete the planned construction and renovation. Next
