Pastor Cox To Receive
"Pillar of Faith" Award
Each year the United Church of Christ Friends of the Howard University
School of Divinity holds its James Floyd Jenkins Pillar Awards Luncheon.
The luncheon is in support of the American Missionary Association Endowed
Chair and the PhD program at the Howard University School of Divinity.
Each year a group of local and national clergy are honored for their
contributions to society.
This year, our Pastor the Rev. Dr. Marcia Cox will be one of the honorees.
The award will be presented at the Pillar of Faith luncheon to be held
on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the Armour J. Blackburn University Center
on the main campus of Howard University at noon. Pastor Cox will be
joined by members of the Augustana family and her fellow ELCA clergy
as she received this important award.

Editor, The Washington Post; The Rev. Dr. Clarence G. Newsome, President,
Shaw University, Raleigh, NC; The Rev. Dr. John O. Peterson, Senior
Pastor, Alfred Street Baptist Church, Alexandria, VA; The Rev. Dr.
Bernard L. Richardson, Dean, Andrew Rankin Chapel, Howard University;
The Rev. Dr. A. Knighton Stanley, Senior Pastor, Peoples Congregational
United Church of Christ, Washington, D.C.; The Rev. Dr. James Daniel
Tyms, former professor and dean, Howard University School of Divinity
(posthumous award); The Rev. Mr. Carlton W. Veazey, President, Religious
Coalition of Reproductive Choice and The Rev. Dr. Matthew A. Zimmerman,
Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church, Manassas, VA.
The luncheon is an occasion to celebrate Pastor Cox's life of
service to the church, the local and regional community and the wider
world. Howard University is proud to be acknowledging her contributions
